WTF WordPress
WTF WordPress – Charles Snyder Raw #34. So today I am way off on my schedule for marketing and creating content. In a nutshell, I allowed myself to get distracted and now I am struggling to get caught back up. But I did it to help a fellow marketer with fixing a big problem.

However, as the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished. I got sucked into a bad situation and now my own business is suffering because of it. So I revisit some of my previous thoughts on distractions during our daily business operations.
Focus on your PPAs
If you remember, I talk about PPAs and staying in your lane when it comes to your business. In fact, it was just a few episodes ago in this series that I went over some of this. Specifically I mention it these episodes:
- Eliminating Business Distractions – Charles Snyder Raw #4
- Prioritize Your Business Day – Charles Snyder Raw #9
So let’s face it, if something doesn’t make you money, the problem is that it doesn’t make you any money. And this is a trap that, until recently, I would fall into time and time again. But now I am thinking about my business and even more importantly, the people in my business.
WTF WordPress in Summary
Anyway, here is a brief overview of what I found. First of all, the more plugins you have installed and active, the more likely that something won’t work right. Additionally, the more plugins you have, the more you have to keep up with updates and the more opportunities for a security breach.
Secondly, the vast majority of plugins, at least for now, slow down your website. But WP is already a bit of a resource hog and prone to slow page loading speeds as a result. Don’t get me wrong, I love using WP and my own agency website uses it.
Last but far from least, I want to emphasize keeping your WP, themes and plugins up to date. As in checking for updates every day or at least once per week. Personally I check the health of our WP install on a daily basis.
However, my point here is this; if you keep WP and all its parts updated, you are a lot less likely to have problems with it.
