DNS Flag Day 2019

DNS Flag Day 2019Charles Snyder Raw #142. Ready or not, EDNS is coming on 1 February 2019. So are you ready? Will your website disappear from the Internet when it all shakes out?

Since I kind of stumbled around the subject in my video, let me get right to my point here. In a nutshell, there has been a new DNS standard out since 1999, called EDNS. Since then, there are a number of DNS and web hosting providers that have not complied with the new standards. And for 20+ years there have been a number of work-arounds to accommodate them.

So I share with you, as of February 1, 2019 (approximately), those work-arounds get nuked. They’re going away permanently. All domain registrars, DNS providers, ISPs, web hosts, etc. must comply with the EDNS Standard of 1999 or their website will simply not be available. Which will speed up DNS (and ultimately your website) slightly.

For most website owners, this change will not affect you and you don’t have anything to worry about. However, it is in your best interest to check and CONFIRM you are good to go. You can do this by entering your domain name in the checker-thingy on this website:

No excuses; it take just 30 seconds to make sure your website, DNS and hosting are in compliance. I strongly encourage you to just do it.

Google Plus coming to an end?

So in other news, I see Google announced today G+ personal accounts are going to be discontinued (i.e. deleted) on April 2, 2019. Since Google Plus (G+) is one of those platforms that many businesses use, I wanted to at least give you the heads-up about this announcement.

So far, everything I have seen about Google’s announcement states that this is only affecting personal accounts. But to be honest with you, I haven’t found anything else which states business or branding accounts are going to be affect too. As I learn more, I will certainly share with you. Stay tuned.
