Windows 7 Update Problem
Windows 7 Update Problem
Windows 7 Update Problem – Charles Snyder Raw #74. So right before I leave to go on deployment, I run a bunch of updates on my laptops. I just want to make sure everything was up to date while I’m working remotely. Since all of the updates finished, I rebooted my business laptop and now it’s saying my copy of Windows isn’t legit.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!
Since my business laptop came with Windows 8.1, I also bought an OEM Windows 7 and key at the same time. Because I know from experience that Win8/8.1 is a terrible operating system for software compatibility. But with some work, I made the downgrade to Win7; and it was purring on that same laptop for more than 3 years.
Is it coincidence?
So while all of this was going on, I’ve been on deployment and shared this with some co-workers. Specifically with two guys I have worked with before on other deployments that are IT specialists. And one of them made a very interesting point.
He says to me, do you think it’s just a coincidence that you run Malicious Software Removal Tool and now it’s saying your copy of Windows is fake?
So to be honest with you, no I do not believe it is a coincidence. Not in the least. But it still didn’t help me resolve the issue and their technical phone support is a joke at best.
Windows 7 Update Problem: Microsoft sucks!
Since that got me thinking, I started doing some research. As a result, I found that there were hundreds, possibly thousands of Win7 users reporting the same issue, all within the past few days. And this is all after the big push for Win10 being released and not seeing very good sales.
Anyway, I now feel compelled to test that theory out. So I’ll start by wiping the computer and doing a clean install of my same old Win7. I’ll use the key that came with it and reinstall all of the updates to see if it happens again. So if it does, I will wipe the drive once more and do a clean install without that particular update.
