Geneius of the Year 2022: BGIM Certified Advertising Geneius Program Graduate
Geneius of the Year 2022
Updated: 13 October 2025
I earned Certified Advertising Geneius–Student of the Year 2022. That title is nice, the award was a surprise, but here’s what truly matters: I help entrepreneurs and small business owners achieve their goals. Period.

This isn’t the typical guru fluff. But it is work you can see and use.
I doubled down, bit the bullet, and shoved my reservations to the side. Not that I really wanted to spend the money or dedicate 4 months of my life to it. But I wanted to improve my advertising, marketing, and sales skills. So that I can better serve my customers and get them better results.
The Turning Point
I joined the 16-week program in January 2022. At first, I coasted. I joked around. I did “just enough” to complete the assignments, but never truly in the spirit of them. By Week 4, the other students were smoking me, running circles around me.
But Week 5 changed all that. I buckled down, did the assignment right away, and shipped some of my best work. So that was the first time I was named Student of the Week. By Week 13, I did it again.
Not luck. Not ass-kissing. Just discipline and helping other students.
What the Program Demanded
This wasn’t a theory. So every week, we produced real assets: ad copy, landing pages, emails, and campaigns. The standard was simple: build it like it’s going live. Track results, measure results, and improve them. Then prove it.
I realize now, these exercises were to first prove proof of concept to ourselves. We proved it. Then we proved it to each other. That was empowering.
I learned to use the same core frameworks for ads and pages so messages match across the funnel. The ideas, psychology, and concepts that would eventually become Turn Clicks Into Customers and Simplified Funnels for SMBs began to gel.
Also, I got relentless about clarity. If the message isn’t simple and clear, it just doesn’t convert. Ever. This led to the creation of the ROI Ninjas Bullseye Workshop and the development of ROI Ninjas University.
Recognition (and Why It Matters)
On Memorial Day (2022), Billy Gene called me. I’d been chosen Student of the Year 2022. The deciding factor wasn’t just the quality of my work–it was how often I helped other students win.
At graduation, Daymond John, Ed Mylett, and Dean Graziosi spoke. The theme was simple: raise your standards, do the damn work, measure the result. So I don’t walk around bragging that “I’m a top 1% marketer,” but I work like it. Every damn day.
What I Built and Use
I decided early on, everything I produce for the program was also going to serve my business. So I turned the assignments into assets we use every day:
- Funnels that ship. Clear steps, one action at a time.
- Email that sells. Sequences that educate and move people to the next step. See more in 10 Customer Acquisition Basics.
- Ad frameworks. Plug-and-play structures for hooks, offers, and CTAs that keep performance honest, and what we avoid in Small Business Marketing Lies.
- Cross-channel coverage. FB/IG, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and X first, then Google/YouTube to follow the buyer. See more in Dominate Local Search.
- Tracking and experience. Better lead tracking and smoother customer touches. Read more: Track Leads Effectively and Enhancing Customer Experience.
Also, I refined and promoted three core properties:
- ROI Ninjas Weekly Kicks: One strong tip a week, consistent and useful. Now the weekly newsletter, Ninja Tribe Uprising (article).
- HVAC Marketing Master Guide: A deep, practical plan that doesn’t waste time. *Currently under revision
- ROI Ninjas CRM: The engine for follow-up, tracking, and closing gaps. See more in Follow-Up or Fail for the philosophy behind it.

Finally, I Updated My Personal Website

Using lessons learned and data, I also revised and updated my personal portfolio. The site had been sitting, mostly unchanged and unused, for 10 years. But now it serves as one more way small business owners can find me and my agency.
Additionally, my personal website, landing pages, ROI Ninjas LinkTrees, and the ROINinjasCRM.com website were all built in ROI Ninjas CRM. This was the Week 16 assignment. But I took it a step further by integrating it all with my CRM, webchat widget, native forms, analytics, and tracking.

Geneius of the Year 2022:
What Changed for Me
Clarity. Speed. Consistency. I stopped reinventing the wheel and started operating from frameworks and systems. That means faster launches, easier optimization, and fewer “spray and pray” moments. No cold-calling. No spam. Just checklists and vision to guide it all.
Learn how I developed these concepts even further in our popular guide, Budget-Friendly Guerrilla Marketing.
Last But Not Least…
One of the first assignments was taking a look at what the future holds. For my agency, my people, and me. So I got to work on revising and updating my second Vivid Vision 2025.
Come to think of it, it’s also time to start working on my next version of our Vivid Vision. But more on that as we get closer to the end of the year.
What This Means for You
If you run a small business, you don’t need more noise. But you do need:
- Clear messaging. Say what matters in plain English so people act. A simple concept that I lay out in Relationships Build Your Brand.
- An easy path of low resistance. One offer, one next step, one way to say yes. A philosophy I hammer home in Beyond Simplified Funnels.
- Follow-Up that works. CRM + automation to catch every lead, every time, and promptly. Also, a huge part of our Speed-to-Lead Playbook.
How This Shows Up in Client Work (2025)
No miracles. No magic tricks. Just standards. Here’s the quality bar I hold on myself, my staff, and my agency:
- Clarity first. If a fifth-grader can’t say and understand the offer, it’s not clear enough to convert. Not now, not ever.
- One page, one job. Each asset gets a single offer, a single goal, and a single CTA. Because confused people will never buy.
- Proof beats postering. Social proof, case points, screenshots, demos–they show what happened. So don’t write a novel about it.
- Avatar → Offer → Channel fit. The message matches the market and the platform. If it doesn’t, we fix the weakest link first.
- Speed-to-Lead. New leads get a response in minutes, not hours or days. Automation handles 24/7; humans close the loop.
- Track everything. We had a saying in the military: In God we trust; all others we track. Source, offer, step, and outcome. We measure results, not vibes.
- Iterate or kill. Winners get budget and refinement; losers get cut. No ego, no lost-cost worship. If it fails to measure up, it gets paused or deleted.
That’s what “Student of the Year” means in practice: discipline, not confetti. It’s how we built funnels that ship, emails that sell, and campaigns that follow the buyer across platforms without spamming anyone. Also, it’s why we rely on CRM-powered follow-up instead of cold-calling. Because it’s consistent, measurable, and scalable.
So if you want clever poetry, hire a copycat or use AI. However, if you want results, we run the system, look at the numbers, and focus on what works.
Geneius of the Year 2022: FAQs
A 16-week, portfolio-driven sprint. You build real ads, pages, emails, and campaigns. Everything ships and can be applied to your business.
For the level of quality work I delivered, plus constantly helping others. I delivered assignments on time every week, coached classmates, and turned the work into systems for my business that we still use to this day.
In a word: everything. Reusable ad frameworks, funnel templates, website templates, email & SMS sequences, cross-channel social media campaigns, and a tracking stack tied into ROI Ninjas CRM.
Clear messaging, simple funnels, and CRM follow-up. Faster launches, tracked steps, steady improvements. No cold-calling, no telemarketing annoyances, and no spamming inboxes.
No. But I also don’t sell titles. I use standards: clarity first, one page = one job, proof over hyperbole, spee-to-lead, and measurable results.
The most annoying answer of all: it depends. As in how much of this you are already doing. But the long game is this: cleaner messaging, quicker deployments, and data-driven tweaks. We keep what works and cut what doesn’t. No withcraft–just discipline.
No. We start with a Quick Fit Check or a Marketing X-Ray Report (article). If there’s no fast path to ROI (or a complete lack of a realistic marketing budget), we don’t proceed.
You have two options: requesting a Marketing X-Ray Report (20-point audit and 90-day plan) or book a 15-Minute Fit Call to confirm next steps.
Geneius of the Year 2022: The Bottom Line
Yes, it was 16 weeks of real work, and it paid for itself–multiple times–because the work became a system. Do the work, make it stupid clear, and keep what creates results. The rest is just unicorn fart-scented bullshit.
