Transferring Website Stats
Transferring Website Stats
Transferring Website Stats – Charles Snyder Raw #123. So this time around I am answering a question about WordPress.com and if stats can be moved from there to a standalone install of WordPress. I am assuming a bit here in that Allana wants to transfer stuff like total visitors, page views, etc.

Why not keep records?
Specifically, she wants to know:
“Can I [Transfer Website Stats] from a free WordPress.com website to a self-hosted one?”
Allana A.
But why would you want to?
Thanks for the question, Allana! Since you are moving to a self-hosted version of WordPress, the million-dollar question is; is it practical? As I say in the video, I never tried it, but I’m pretty sure you can with the JetPack plugin. But your standalone WordPress website is going to perform differently than it is on WordPress.com.
I would recommend not transferring your stats, just your content and users. For example, if you were to add Google Analytics to your self-hosted site, you’ll begin to see that your stats differ. Even your hosting provider should have some basic tools for measuring site traffic and those will differ too. So don’t rely on just one source of analytics alone.
Transferring Website Stats; more thoughts…
Since we are already talking about multiple tools for measuring website traffic, why not mention some other tools too?
If you use Facebook or Instagram for advertising, you’ll want to add the Facebook Pixel to your website as well. So you’re probably already guessing correctly that you will get different stats there. Back in Winking In The Dark – Charles Snyder Raw #81, I talked about using the Facebook Pixel, if you would like to know more about it. And that’s not even mentioning the Google Pixel and other similar tools you can use.
To sum it all up
So in summary, Transferring Website Stats is not that good of an idea. Well, I wouldn’t recommend it and I would never do it with my agency or customer websites. Thanks again for the question, Allana!
