More Computer Problems – Charles Snyder Raw #27. So it seems that this deployment to California is cursed. I am now plagued by yet more laptop crashes and I haven’t fully recovered from the last one. Or perhaps this is just a continuation of much larger issues.
Regardless, I am mad! Mad as Hell to be honest. This time when my laptop crashed, I lost all of my video files. Not to mention a lot of graphics and images that I use in these videos and on our agency website. But I have to find a way to recover everything or at least as much as I can.
Attempting to recover lost files
First of all, any time you try to recover lost files or folders, your best bet is to run Scan Disk (Windows) and Check Disk (DOS). But to be on the safe side, be sure to run Scan Disk with the surface scanning option and to attempt corrupt file recovery. So it will take longer to complete, however, it is the quickest and easiest option.
So if that doesn’t fix things, the next step is to run Check Disk from MS-DOS. There are a few options for how to do this, but that is beyond the scope of this article and video.
If neither utilities fix things, then you either have to have some sort of backup (the best option) or you’ll have to use a third-party program. Additional software can get expensive, but it’s not nearly as expensive as sending it to a data recovery service provider. You’ll see what I mean in my video today.
More Computer Problems and solutions
Anyway, I talk about more options and costs in the video. But the best solution is to have a backup of your data BEFORE something happens. Normally I do have at least one backup, sometimes more.
However, since I am on deployment, I don’t have access to all of the tools I usually have.
