Making Things Easier

Making Things Easier

Making Things EasierCharles Snyder Raw #14. So originally, the idea I had was simply cranking out videos. But not so much written articles to go along with said videos. In other words, I was trying to save time in favor of producing more content.

I’ve had better ideas…

As a result, I produced a lot more video content. However, we were not seeing much more if any additional website traffic. And that is simply not what I was looking for. So here I am, a year later fixing that mistake.

Easier is not necessarily better

Initially, my plan of just cranking out more videos worked. I made a lot more video content in 2018. But the trade-off is when we did that, we were not creating anything new for the search engines.

You would think that since I do have an extensive background in web development and SEO, that I would know better. I mean eventually, when I was auditing our agency website, I thought; what the Hell was I thinking?!

Making Things Easier and better

Anyway, I’ve been working on correcting that error in judgment. Since January 2019 I have been revisiting most of our content and adding written articles as needed. And the work continues.

Because without written content, search engines have nothing to index. So that is why I repeat often, SEO without content is a waste of time, money and effort. And marketing to drive traffic to a website without content is a big waste of time, effort and money too.

As a result, I have been carefully editing articles and republishing them. One a day and then I am also editing the related video content as well as publishing everything to our social media assets. But here is a brief list of what I am checking and fixing with all of our content:

  • Spelling and grammar checks
  • Fixing internal links and adding where appropriate
  • Updating images, banners, and logos
  • SEO checks, keyword updates, and adding tags, etc.
  • Adding rich snippets and excerpts to every article
  • Editing and updating content wherever necessary
  • Adding featured images to every article
  • Editing video listings on our YouTube channel to match
  • Adding the featured image to each video as the preview
  • Syndicating updated content to all of our social media

The takeaway here is…

In conclusion, cutting corners may seem like a good idea at the moment, but sooner or later it’ll bite you in the ass. I cut some corners with our content creation and now I am spending time fixing it. Two years later.

Don’t make the same mistake I made.
