Live Streaming Fail – Charles Snyder Raw #37. Lately, I have been experimenting with doing live-streaming on Facebook. The first time I went live was OK, people showed up, there some interaction going on and it was all good. However, subsequent attempts have all been dismal failures.
So here I was, all pumped up from my first try at going live on social media, only to be bummed-out by later attempts. I mean I think I did everything the same way as I had before. But, I’m still scratching my head trying to figure things out.
Why bother with it?
You may be asking yourself, if it’s a hassle, why even worry about it?
So the simple answer is that you can do it for free. Both Facebook and YouTube allow you to stream live without any costs. Which is a great way to get in front of your audience.
Also, you can get the attention of new people too. You can cultivate and grow your tribe. So that is another important reason to go live.
Live Streaming Fail: Lessons Learned
However, if you want to do anything more like get interactive with your audience or use multiple cameras, then you have to get some gear. For example, I have a growing collection of cameras, software, and even a writing/drawing pad. Just to name a few.
Another consideration is being able to share your screen. I mention this specifically because being able to share your desktop to demonstrate something can be important. But even that can only be one or the other unless you have some sort of software or hardware video mixer.
Last but not least, you may also want to consider having someone behind the camera. And/or someone running a video mixer for you. Because trying to do all those things while presenting is a lot to keep track of.
