Get Creative
Get Creative – Charles Snyder Raw #19. Since we all have days where we brain-cramp and get stuck, I decided to make this installment about working around those roadblocks. I’m having one of those days because I have so many things on my mind lately. So what do you do when it happens to you?

Think outside the box!
When you’re stuck, you got to do whatever it takes to get unstuck. That may take looking for inspiration, getting feedback from your peers or employees, etc. But no matter what you need to do to get your thought process going, do it as soon as possible. Kind of like I share in Overcoming Creative Constipation – 1 Minute Marketing Tips #14.
Develop a toolbox of inspiration
Quite possibly, one of the best choices I ever made without thinking about it, was developing a process for finding inspiration. I began building a list of go-to resources such as websites and social media. And I’ve done it so often now, it’s second nature. So I don’t need to put a lot of thought into it.
Over the months and years I have researched forums, groups, online communities and chat boards. I look at what the hot topics are and decide if it matches my business goals or not. Also, I look at how I can contribute to that community, etc.
Additionally, I pay very close attention to the general “feel” of a particular group. For example, I’ve seen some chat boards and group degenerate into bitch-fests about how the world owes something to the entitled. Others have become highly political (typically leaning hard to the left) and I avoid them too.
Just Get Creative and the ideas will flow
So there are a lot of different ways to get a feel for the pulse of your audience. It takes work to get it set up, but once you have it, you have it for as long as you use it. And best of all it doesn’t cost you anything but some time and effort.
In closing, I’ll give you one of my secret weapons. If you want to create an article or video to trigger your audience; check out your competition’s negative reviews and create content around that! Not specifically about your competition, but what is pissing their customers off.
