Donโt Be Vanilla
Donโt Be Vanilla
Donโt Be Vanilla โ Charles Snyder Raw #32. Hey, I love vanilla ice cream, vanilla cream soda, etc., so donโt get me wrong. However, what I am talking about is those boring videos that everyone is starting to create. You know the ones Iโm talking about, theyโre dry and theyโre not interesting.
Add โflavorโ to make it interesting!
So as I led into this article talking about being vanilla, you need to add some flavor to your content. You have to spice things up a bit by at least being interesting or funny or both. But being entertaining isnโt all about making people laugh and smile. You can capture some peopleโs attention by being dramatic or even being divisive.
First, a word of caution
Since some people can take things too far and others are just too sensitive to deal with reality, I must offer a few words of caution. Some topics such as politics and religion can spark some ugly disagreements. So if you decide to go that route, be prepared for the repercussions.
Other touchy topics include race, gender, national origin, sexuality, and so on. So if you decide to tackle any of them, be just as prepared for heated debates. Particularly, I would recommend avoiding any kind of racial bigotry, itโs not necessary and people are people. Period.
However, you can still avoid being bland
For example, while I do not believe in racism, I also do not agree with Affirmative Action. I can already imagine some people reading that single sentence and dismissing everything I share in this article and my video. But for those who havenโt simply had a meltdown over that comment, let me qualify my position.
In a nutshell, after more than 30 years as a firefighter, I never once stopped to think about someoneโs race when I saved their life. I just donโt care what color your skin is. It doesnโt matter to me.
But just as important, at least to me, I donโt believe that Affirmative Action is a good thing. It doesnโt matter if youโre African American, Latino, or Asian. In fact, I see it as discriminating against Asians while also stating that โblacksโ are essentially incapable of competing on a level playing field.
I call bullshit. Because I know better.
Donโt Be Vanilla in summary
Anyway, to bring this full-circle, if youโre going to interesting, you better be clear on where you stand. Some people will undoubtedly take offense and disagree with you. But most will respect you taking a stand.
The trick is to take a stand, within reason, and stick to your guns. That will attract far more followers and customers than trying to be everything to everyone. You know, like being vanilla.
Last but not least, hereโs one more thought I have on the subject. People get on social media to be entertained. So at the very least try to be interesting.
