Always Be Improving
Always Be Improving
Always Be Improving – Charles Snyder Raw #71. Pretty much ever since I can remember, I have been a fan of learning new skills. I’m also a big fan of practicing skills so that they become second nature. So here I am again today, training my brain and learning.
I never stop leveling up!
Since Tuesday, everything got rescheduled which has kind of thrown me off track this week. Even so, I still try to make time every week to read or watch some educational videos. But the moral of my story is this; I am always working on getting better.
I believe in practical application, not fluff
So in today’s video, I share a story from my days as a firefighter. I talk about the majority of my co-workers watching TV or taking it easy. Some times I would too, but most of the time I was also practicing rescue knots. Or I would be reading firefighting-related magazines and training manuals.
As a result of all this additional work, my name was typically at or near the very top of the promotion list. So it was also no coincidence to me that I was promoted rather quickly without having a college degree. But I did have a long, growing list of professional certifications and accomplishments.
Always Be Improving: the moral of this story
So here is what I mean by sharing this story with you. I did a lot of extra practice and took as many classes as I could. I immersed myself in the job and the training. But it was the fact that I had job-specific education and the ability to apply it practically that was my biggest win.
But don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t like I had someone telling me if I did all of that, that I would get a promotion. However, I have seen the results of my choices to practice instead of coasting pay off. So that has always stuck with me since my late-20s.
Anyway, my point here is this, if you’re going to do sales and marketing, then DO sales and marketing! Takes classes, do some reading and practice what you learn, while others coast. So if you do that, it won’t take long for you to reap the rewards too. I share even more insight with my inspirational video today, enjoy!
