Always Be Improving
Always Be Improving – Charles Snyder Raw #74. Pretty much ever since I can remember, I have been a fan of learning new skills. I’m also a big fan of practicing skills in order for them to become second nature. So here I am again today, training my brain and learning.

I never stop leveling up!
Since Tuesday, everything got rescheduled which has kind of thrown me off track this week. Even so, I still try to make time every week to read or watch some educational videos. But the moral of my story is this; I am always working on getting better.
I believe in practical application, not fluff
So in today’s video I share a story from my days as a firefighter. I talk about the majority of my co-workers watching TV or taking it easy. Some times I would too, but most of the time I was also practicing rescue knots. Or I would be reading articles in Firehouse Magazine. Other times I would read the IFSTA Essentials of Firefighting manual and so on.
As a result of all this additional work, my name was typically at or near the very top of any promotion list. So it was also no coincident to me that I was promoted rather quickly without having a college degree. But I did have a long, growing list of certifications and accomplishments. It was the fact that I had job-specific education and the ability to apply it practically.
But don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t like I had someone telling me if I did all of that, that I would get a promotion. Kind of like I am sharing with you. However, I have seen the results of my choices to practice instead of coasting pay off. So that has always stuck with me since my late-20s.
I share even more insight in my video, enjoy!
