So here is an analogy that will hopefully make sense to you. Say you have the only freshwater stand in the entire Sahara desert. It should be pretty easy to make a lot of money from some very thirsty people, right?

But, if no one knows you have fresh, cool water for sale in the middle of the desert; the problem is no one knows about your business.

Where somebody knows your name

So marketing solves that problem for you and gets your name out there, in front of your potential customers. But the traditional methods of marketing like TV, radio, print, and billboards, aren’t all that efficient. For example, trying to sell a glass of water to a thirsty man is much easier than selling that same glass of water to a drowning man.

On the other hand, digital marketing allows you to specifically target thirsty people. But it also allows you to not show your marketing to people that are drowning. They’re more likely to have interest in a life raft or rescue services versus a glass of water.

Additionally, it gets your name and your brand out there. It makes people aware that you have a fresh glass of water when they are really thirsty. This is brand awareness in a nutshell and it’ll get your phone ringing.

Some entrepreneurs and even small business owners need to accept that marketing is a necessity. Because customers will not just fall out of the clear, blue sky for no other reason than you are open for business. It just doesn’t work like that and it never will.

So that means marketing and advertising to your name or your brand out there in front of the people that may just have an interest in your stuff. But if you are not familiar with social media and search engines, you’re better off hiring someone that is. Because they can get you better results.
