Chris H. wants to know a simple way of applying SEO to his family business and getting more customers. But after a brief conversation with Chris, he states that his company doesn’t have a clearly defined service area. Also, his company’s only form of advertising is a sign out front and a website.
So beyond a website, a physical sign out front and a Yellow Pages listing, Chris’s company does no marketing. Sure adding some SEO will help to get him found in search engine results, but it’s not going to get him more sales. Because when a construction company needs a supplier, they are not going to waste time Googling it.

Look, SEO can help to drive more traffic to your website and offers. But it is passive and it certainly doesn’t create a steady flow of customers. However, marketing and advertising to a defined audience will definitely a lot more sales over time.
So our recommendation for Chris was to define his geographic area of service for SEO purposes. But he states that his desired customers are general contractors and home builders. Not so much the handyman type or the “Do It Yourself” crowd.
Additionally, we recommend that Chris develop separate messages for general contractors and home builders respectively. Specifically targeting the managers and employees of certain ‘big names’ in his area of service. Because the next time they need supplies like yesterday, they will already know about Chris’s family business.
