Practice Public Speaking
Practice Public Speaking – Charles Snyder Raw #17. So sometimes people ask me how they can get more comfortable speaking on camera. Since my days as a fire instructor and fire chief, I had to learn it on the fly. But when I joined Toastmasters International, back in 2004, I learned so much more!
Toastmasters anyone?
Come to think of it, Toastmasters would be a great way to learn how to speak at networking events. I have been in several conversations where this came up and I have made the same recommendation. So whether you’re on camera, at a convention or speaking on stage, the education and practice is priceless.
My Journey with Toastmasters
So way back in the early to mid-2000s, my business coach, Lia, encouraged me to join the local club in York, PA. Which is exactly what I did. I visited the club meeting one evening, watched them and even participated. I enjoyed it enough to join on the spot that night.
After a few months, I earned my Competent Speaker certificate. It was fairly quick and painless; I enjoyed the challenge. So I continued with the club for several years. To this day I use what I learned in those club meetings in everything I do. Public speaking, recording these videos and pressing palms with business owners at special events.
Practice Public Speaking all the time!
Have you ever heard the expression, you never get a second chance to make a first impression? Well, it’s true and it’s just as true when it comes to introducing people to your products and services. So how well you speak (or don’t), definitely plays a big role in you making a great first impression.
Speaking well applies to a lot of things. Whether you are making a video blog, a sales presentation or introducing yourself to a potential customer. So doesn’t it make sense to get some training?
I highly recommend it for EVERY business owner and marketer!
